Handcrafted pens by Patrick Sikes

It has been a while since I posted a “Friday Find.” This week, it comes from Etsy.com‘s new email subscription Etsy Dudes.

This weeks find is totally off my normal pens, writing, or woodturning themes but just caught my eye. It is a camera strap made from a Ford Mustang trunk liner. My first car was a 1967 Mustang in a awesome color of primer gray! Every time I opened that trunk up there was this brilliant plaid trunk liner looking up at me…what a beautiful thing!

Since photos of curly koa just don’t do it justice I thought I would try to make my very first YouTube.com video!  I now know not to talk too much!  :-)   I hope you enjoy!

Posted two new Sierra style ballpoint pens on my Etsy shop tonight.  The Sierra pen features a Parker style refill with a twist to open/close mechanism makes for a very smooth writer. Perfect for men and women.

Plus my early announcement of my new “Blue Hawaii” line of koa wood pens.

I just waned to share with you an Etsy Treasury one of my pens is featured in.  I think there are some really great handcrafted items in this list.  Enjoy!

Toothbrush holder - Pink
Yes…I know…that is a toothbrush not a pen.  But isn’t it about the same?  this is a very cool handcrafted glass “holder” that can be used to hold a few of your favorite pens.  I found it on Etsy from Brad Turner Glass.

I have discovered a new (to me) material in the pen making world: TruStone.  TruStone is man made, but consists of real stone with a binding resin that allows it to be turned like wood but take on the luster and polish of the real stone!  Above is the first pen I have created with TruStone.  It features the Turquoise with black web version on a Rhodium plating Baron style fountain pen.

TruStone is available in a myriad of different stones including malachite, jade, and jasper.  I will be adding some additional information on my website soon that features some of the other options available that you may be interested in.

I found this really interesting turned “winged” bowl on Etsy this morning.  It has been turned from a banksia pod which come from the banksia plant that grows in Australia.  You can read this interesting article on Wikipedia for more information.  Visit mapleseedgallery on Etsy for some more great turnings.
